How it all began

Published by karend at 5:40 am under Uncategorized Edit This

When I was little I had two favorite shows: Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie.  It always caught my attention how Darrin could spend so much time at home with Samantha and Tabitha.  He would do all his creative work there and Samantha always gave him ideas and knew what he was trying to accomplish.  He did not seem stressed until it was time to meet the boss, but at the same time because Darrin and Samantha spent quality time together, she was able to always save the day and everyone was happy, smiling and celebrating.  The vibe I got from Tony of I Dream of Jeannie was that he wished he could spend more time with Jeannie, but always had to be rushing to get to the base.  And well, Jeannie would always find a way to sneak in at the base and there was his friend Roger, who helped Tony keep his sanity, but you get the idea.

Though the idea of working from home didn’t sink in at the time, at the back of my mind I imagined myself in solitude writing a book  in a cozy home by the ocean or in a forest.

When was the first time you knew of someone that worked from home?

I’m showing my young age, but I didn’t know that Darrin from I Dream of Jeannie was a telecommuter! I was doing a little bit of research for the fun of it about the history of working from home, and really it isn’t a new concept. Its funny where you can find telecommuters, like in the Oval Office, if you really think about it.
